If a year ago you’d have told me that I’d fall in love with spin I’d have laughed in your face. Be addicted to busting my ass on a bike that doesn’t travel with your shoes clipped in to pedals that don’t stop going, no thank you! That was until Soul Cycle!
A spin class that sees you spin in the dark, to incredible tunes with equally incredible teachers. Ibiza on a bike. ps: I know I’m not the first to blog and obsess about this EXTREMELY popular workout. In fact I’m uber late to the party *get it* lol.
But one thing that I couldn’t help but to share with you was my experience of finally getting to be in the class with a remarkable spin instructor by the name of Angela Davis.
I’d always noticed on the website when trying to book online that her classes were ALWAYS full and offered a wait list, so I knew there was definitely some magic going on when she was around. Not to mention that she’s in selfies with Oprah!
But being the disorganised girl that I am, I always missed the booking window for selecting her class before the seats ran out so I spent the first few months in LA never catching a glimpse of A.D or being privy to her 45 min session. Until one day, I ran into a friend from London who was over and doing a class at Soul Cycle West Hollywood, one of the studios that she teaches from.
He explained to me that he turns up for her class and waits just in case there’s a space at the last min and 1 in 2 times he gets in. So I did the same 2 days later and boom I too was in. *Please note I did the same last Friday and it was full so I advise booking if you can lol*
Within less than 10 mins, I knew why this woman had hordes of people desperate to be taught by her. It was like going to Gospel church but training on a bike at the same time. Along with the incredible tunes that ranged from Jay-Z to a cheeky bit of deep house, Angela with her words and her unmatchable energy roused me, and I think my entire class, into a state of almost joyous tears, believing we could do ANYTHING the day had in store for us.
In my most recent class with her, Angela shared this native American Cherokee legend in order to remind of us of which path in life to take:
Tale of the two Wolves
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between 2 “wolves” inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
All hail, the very lovely, Angela
Or try Psycle in London!
